My sister, Chloe, who had always been a straight-A student and a sweet girl, suddenly fell madly in love with the schools notorious bad boy during our senior year.
She started skipping classes, getting into street fights, and even booking cheap motel rooms with him.
I was furious when I found out. Caring only about her future, I forced them to break up.
But Chloe cried, screaming in my face, "Natalie, you don't understand! This is true love!"
Eventually, on the night of her birthday, the bad boy tried to sneak out by climbing over his backyard wall to see her. He was hit and instantly killed by a speeding semi-truck.
Overnight, Chloe became a completely different person. She started listening to me again.
Not only did she get into an Ivy League university, but she also landed a high-paying corporate job making millions a year. She was the envy of everyone.
Just when I thought the dust had settled and I could finally breathe a sigh of relief.
Years later, at her birthday party, she drugged my drink and dragged me into a hotel room, throwing me onto a bed surrounded by a group of strange, sketchy men.
I begged her to save me, but her eyes were bloodshot with pure hatred. "If it weren't for you, Tyler would still be alive! Youre the one who deserves to die, you bitch!"
I fought with everything I had, but the men she hired choked the life out of me.
It turned out she had been harboring this deep, venomous hatred for me all those years.
But when I opened my eyes again, I was back. Back to the exact day I caught Chloe and her bad boy boyfriend checking into that trashy motel.
Chloe looked at me with a smirk, defying me. "Hey, Natalie. Dont you think Tyler and I are just a match made in heaven?"
I smiled and replied, "Actually, I think you two deserve each other perfectly."
I was sure of it. I had traveled back in time to the day I caught Chloe checking into a motel with Tyler.
Ever since senior year started, Chloe had been acting weird. Her grades plummeted, and she constantly smelled of cheap weed and booze.
That morning, I received a confirmation text about a motel booking on my family plan. I rushed over as fast as I could.
And this was the scene waiting for me.
Looking at Chloe, who was giggling uncontrollably at the motel entrance, wrapping her arms around Tyler while pulling his hands onto her body, I felt a chilling sense of dj vu.
Even from a distance, I could clearly hear her loud, arrogant voice:
"Whats the point of studying anyway? Its way better to find a real man like you and get married. Thats a womans true worth!"
"Look at my loser sister, Natalie. Working herself to death, and for what? She still can't even get a man!"
As the "loser sister" she was talking about, my gaze instantly turned ice-cold.
Our parents died in a car crash when Chloe was barely two years old.
I was only five years older than her. I raised her by myself when I was basically still a kid myself.
To pay for her private school tuition, I worked two retail jobs while studying, even leaving a permanent scar on my hand from a kitchen accident because I was too sleep-deprived to focus.
And yet, in her eyes, everything I had done for her couldnt even compare to a boy she had known for a couple of months.
To be fair, the old Chloe used to be great. She was always at the top of her class.
Aside from being a bit introverted and not talking to me much, she was a good kid.
I used to think we would live like this until the day I died.
I never expected everything to shatter during her crucial senior year.
A transfer student named Tyler joined her class. He was athletic, charming, and came from what seemed like a wealthy family.
He was the star player on both the basketball and soccer fields.
He instantly became the dream guy for almost every girl in school, including Chloe.
Before long, they started dating.
Tyler promised to show Chloe "the real world."
So, the girl who had been quiet and obedient for eighteen years started skipping classes, getting into fights, smoking, and drinking.
It was during that time that I realized I never truly knew my sister.
She wasn't introverted. She was just waiting for someone to drag her into the wild.
She genuinely believed the trash Tyler fed her: "A girl's most valuable asset is her youth. You need to bag a rich guy fast."
"Going to college is useless. Its much faster to just lay down, open your legs, and make quick cash." She treated those words like absolute gospel.
Chloe had even told me face-to-face at home, "Natalie, why are you still working? You should use your looks while youre young and marry some rich dude!"
In my past life, to get her back on the right track, I practically gave up my own life.
I locked her in the house, called her school, and stayed by her side 24/7.
But to see Tyler, she threw tantrums, threatened suicide, went on hunger strikes, and screamed that I was a jealous bitch who didn't understand true love.
She even hid a kitchen knife behind her back, waiting for a chance to stab me.
Eventually, Tyler, driven by his hormones, tried to sneak out of his house in the middle of the night to find her.
He never made it. He was crushed by a speeding truck and died on the spot.
After crying her eyes out, Chloe came to me and said, "Natalie, I was wrong. Ill listen to you from now on."
I thought she finally understood my sacrifices. I didn't know that was the exact moment she started planning my murder.
She studied hard just to get enough power to escape me and drag me to hell.
She believed I was the one who ruined her and Tyler's perfect life, so she wanted to ruin mine.
Even when the men she hired were tearing my clothes off while I screamed for mercy, she just watched coldly and said:
"Kill this bitch."
Well, in this life, I wanted to see how long their "sweet love" would last without me cleaning up their mess.
Seeing me appear, Chloe didnt look guilty or embarrassed at all. Instead, her face was filled with pure contempt and defiance.
Holding the hand of Tylerwho was sporting dyed yellow hair and looking like a total street punkshe asked arrogantly, "What the hell are you doing here, Natalie?"
She looked so proud, without a single trace of the quiet, sweet girl she used to be.
She had completely embraced being trash.
The scene mirrored my past life so perfectly that I dazed out for a second.
But my eyes quickly fell on their tightly locked hands.
Noticing my gaze, Chloe smirked. Before I could even ask, she raised their joined hands like a trophy. "This is my boy, Tyler."
She was incredibly proud of herself for bagging such a "hot" boyfriend.
Tyler, seeing that I wasn't saying anything, lost his patience.
If I hadn't interrupted, they would probably be messing around in the motel room by now.
He pointed at me and sneered, "Yo, lady. My girl asked you a question. Are you fucking deaf?"
The harsh words hit my ears, but I didn't feel a single spark of anger.
This was the "dream guy" Chloe worshipped. A low-class punk who couldn't speak without swearing.
And Chloe, my precious little sister whom I had pampered since childhood, just stood there watching her boyfriend curse at me.
She didn't say a single word to defend me.
Instead, she looked at him with admiration, as if watching him insult me was some sort of turn-on.
I remembered how Chloe had excitedly told me, "Natalie, theres a new guy in my class. Hes so manly, completely different from the losers I know."
I looked Tyler up and down. Sure, he had decent looks.
But he was pure trash.
I played with my freshly done nails and said calmly, "You're not eighteen yet, Chloe. The booking confirmation was sent directly to my Snapchat because of the family plan."
Chloe finally remembered how the app worked and stomped her foot in annoyance.
Then, she glanced at Tyler, took a step forward, and held out her hand to me. "Since youre here, give me some cash. We need to grab dinner, and booking this room took all my money."
She demanded it so naturally, as if I owed her the world.
Through years of my unconditional love and indulgence, Chloe had come to believe that everything I did for her was my duty.
She thought she could treat me however she wanted, and I just had to take it.
Just like in my past life, when she brought those men to rape me. While I screamed in agony and despair, she dug her sharp nails into my cheek.
She hissed, "Natalie, youve never had a man in your life. Im doing you a favor, why aren't you grateful?"
Thinking about that scene made my chest tighten with a brief, sharp pain.
I looked at Chloe. "What do you mean you have no money? I just gave you 0-000 this week."
Hearing this, Chloe rolled her eyes and scoffed.
"What can 0-000 even buy these days? It barely covered a couple of drinks and food for us. Honestly, Natalie, I think youre abusing me on purpose."
If this were my past life, I would have been in tears, feeling incredibly hurt.
Other kids only got $50 a week. I was so worried she would feel insecure because we didnt have parents, so I survived on instant ramen just to scrape together 0-000 for her.
Yet, she didn't have a shred of gratitude. She just wanted more.
Of course she was out of money. She paid for every single date with Tyler, and even the motel room today was paid for with her lunch money.
Tylers family was rich, but his dad had a whole second family with a mistress.
Most of his dad's money went to the mistress. Tyler's mother didn't dare to confront her husband, so to keep up her "rich housewife" image, she heavily cut Tylers allowance.
In reality, Tyler had less cash on him than Chloe did.
Unfortunately, Chloe, blinded by love, didnt notice anything wrong. She even foolishly thought paying for him was some kind of romantic test of loyalty.
But the current me already knew she was an ungrateful viper. I had zero expectations for her.
I sat down on a nearby bench, crossed my legs, and said with a look of fake guilt, "Oh, Chloe. I left the house in such a rush today that I forgot my wallet. How about I go back home and get some cash for you?"
The smug pride on Chloe's face cracked for a split second.
In the past, I always gave her whatever she wanted. I never said no.
Even if I wore the same old jacket for three years, I would still buy her the trendiest clothes of the season.
Sometimes she didn't even have to ask. A tiny hint from her, and I would buy it and bring it to her.
She would accept it reluctantly, pretending to care about me by saying, "Natalie, you should buy some clothes for yourself next time."
Thinking back, it was utterly sickening.
Tyler had figured out I was her sister, but he couldn't care less.
After all, he didn't even love Chloe, so why would he care about her sister?
He looked at his watch, completely annoyed.
"Stop wasting your breath on this lonely old maid. I have to go home soon!"
Chloe looked at him with puppy-dog eyes. "Sure, baby."
She was entirely convinced that I wouldn't actually leave her stranded, thinking my refusal was just a bluff.
She rolled her eyes at me.
"Seriously, Natalie, what good are you anyway? If you dont have cash, go borrow some! Im not living like a poor person!"
Wow. How entitled.
If I didn't know better, Id think she was the long-lost daughter of a billionaire.
Her so-called "good life" was entirely funded by sucking my blood.
I put my hands into my coat pockets, stood up, and stopped Chloe just as she was turning to walk into the motel room.
"Chloe, actually, I didn't come here to break you guys up today."
Chloe paused. I was usually the most controlling one. I would lecture her even if she had a few random guys on her Snapchat.
And today, I had caught them red-handed at a motel, yet I seemed completely unfazed?
She looked back at me suspiciously. "So, you think Tyler and I are a good match?"
I smiled so wide my face almost hurt. "Absolutely. You two are literally a match made in heaven."
A pair of absolute trash. How could they not be a perfect match?
Chloes expression immediately relaxed. She knew itas long as she threw a tantrum, I would always cave.
She grabbed Tylers arm, swaying her hips as she told me, "I want steak and fries for dinner tonight!"
With that, they walked into the room. I stood by the door, watching them close it with a smile.
My dear sister, I wish you two the absolute best.
I cant wait to see how long your "eternal love" lasts in this life without me blocking your way.
The first thing I did when I got home was pack up my few belongings.
I would rather rent a tiny studio outside than spend another second under the same roof as that ungrateful leech.
Just looking at her things made me sick.
In our parents' house, the room with the best sunlight was Chloes bedroom, and the room next to it was her walk-in closet.
Meanwhile, I, the one who paid for everything, slept in the smallest, darkest utility room.
I had chosen that room myself back then, wanting to give my sister the best possible environment.
Whats hilarious is that Chloe never found this unfair. In fact, she often yelled at me to stay out of "her" space.
I let out a self-deprecating laugh and quickly packed my bags.
I didn't forget to take the important documents, like our parents house deed and my bank cards. Chloe was cunning; I had to guard myself.
I had already found a place near the university campus.
The apartment was great, and most importantly, the rent was cheaponly about $500 a month.
The landlord's family was moving out of the country in a hurry, which was the only reason I got such a steal.
After packing, I called a moving company to load up the furniture.
Everything in this house was bought with my hard-earned money. I wasnt leaving a single piece of thread for Chloe.
By the time I finished, I was drenched in sweat. I collapsed onto the empty couch and chugged a bottle of water.
Before I could even catch my breath, my Snapchat buzzed.
When her pink profile picture popped up, my stomach literally churned with disgust.
[Natalie, what are you doing? Transfer me some money right now! Do you want Tyler and me to starve?]
