The cramping pain in my lower abdomen grew sharper; I curled up on the hospital bed, cold sweat soaking the back of my patient gown.

The nurse had just changed my IV drip and quietly urged me to rest well.

The baby didn't survive. Your body is weak now; don't think too much.

I nodded, my gaze resting on the empty white porcelain bowl on the bedside table.

Two hours ago, Secretary Collins had brought me this bowl of pregnancy-preserving medicine, saying Mason Lewis had specially asked her to prepare it.

I stroked my still-flat belly the place where our child had once lived, just two months old.

The hospital ward door was gently pushed open, and I quickly closed my eyes, feigning sleep.

It was Mason Lewis's voice, laced with a barely perceptible irritation.

"How is she?"

"The doctor said the miscarriage was complete, Mr. Lewis." Secretary Collins's voice softened, carrying a teasing tone, "You were so serious outside the ward just now, you scared me."

"Stop joking around, this is a hospital." Mason's voice lowered slightly, "Are you sure the medicine is safe?"

"Don't worry, I had someone prepare the prescription. It's absolutely undetectable." Secretary Collins chuckled softly, "That child was never meant to come, don't you think?"

My heart clenched sharply, my fingers gripping the bedsheet beneath me tightly.

"How did she suddenly get pregnant recently?" Mason Lewis's tone held a trace of confusion.

"Isn't it because you went on your last business trip and forgot to tell Bella to give her the contraceptive pill?" Secretary Collins scolded, "That's why I hurried to find a solution. We can't really let her give birththat would cause too much trouble."

Contraceptive pill?

A buzzing sound echoed in my mindthe warm milk Bella brought every morning, the health supplements said to regulate her bodyit all turned out to be contraceptive pills.

Don't leave any traces of this. Mason Lewis's voice grew cold. "She's emotionally unstable right now. Lately, you should show up less in front of her."

"What, feeling sorry now?" Secretary Collins's voice sharpened instantly. "Mason Lewis, don't forgetwe've been together for three years! If she weren't sitting in Mrs. Lewis's place, I'd have been the rightful mistress long ago."

"I said, stop this nonsense." Mason Lewis's voice held a warning. "Her father did me a favor; I can't be too ruthless."

"A benefactor?" Secretary Collins sneered. "Then why are you giving her contraceptive pills every day, and now you've had her child aborted?"

Mason Lewis remained silent, and the hospital ward fell into a brief hush.

"I don't care," Secretary Collins' voice softened again. "You promised me that once her father's company is completely absorbed by us, you'll divorce her."

"Understood." Mason sighed. "I'll go check outside first. You should leave quickly."

The footsteps gradually faded away. I suddenly opened my eyes, tears finally spilling uncontrollably.

All that tenderness and care were just a facade, and all those oaths of eternal love were lies.

When Mason Lewis pushed the door open, I had already wiped away my tears and was staring blankly at the ceiling.

"Lisa, how are you feeling?" He sat on the edge of the bed, reaching out to touch my forehead.

I turned my head to avoid him, and his hand froze mid-air.

"The doctor said you need to rest quietly. I've already asked Bella to stew some soup; she'll bring it later." He tried to break the silence.

"No need." My voice was hoarse. "Mason Lewis, the pregnancy-preserving medicine Secretary Collins made tastes quite good."

His face instantly paled, panic filling his eyes.

"Lisa, what do you mean?"

"Nothing." I turned my head and looked him straight in the eyes. "I just feel that compared to the milk Bella made, the medicine's taste is stronger."

His body jolted sharply; his lips moved, but he couldn't form a word.

I closed my eyes, unwilling to look at his hypocritical face any longer.

My heart died the moment I heard that conversation.

On the day I was discharged, Mason Lewis came to pick me up himself.

He apologized continuously all the way, saying he had been deceived by Secretary Collins and begging me to give him another chance.

I said nothing, only watching the street scenes rapidly blur past the window.

Returning to the empty villa, Bella timidly approached, carrying a cup of milk.

"Madam, you're back. Have some milk to help you regain your strength."

I glanced at the cup of milk and let out a cold sneer.

"Bella, you can drink this milk yourself."

Bella's face changed instantly; she hurriedly lowered her eyes, afraid to meet my gaze.

Mason frowned. "Lisa, don't make things difficult for Bella. She's just following orders."

"Acting under orders?" I looked at him. "Under your orders, you gave me contraceptive pills?"

His face flushed and paled, and after a long pause he managed to say, "I didn't mean to, I just thought we weren't ready to have a child yet."

"Not ready?" I raised my voice. "Not ready, yet you let me get pregnant and then had your secretary give me miscarriage medicine?"

He was left speechless by my question, only able to repeatedly say, "I'm sorry, Lisa, I know I was wrong."

In the following days, Mason Lewis came home on time every day, tending to me with care, trying to make amends.

But I knew it was only a delaying tactic on his part.

That afternoon, I received a call from an unknown number. The caller only said, "Mr. Lewis is at the company with Secretary Collins," then hung up.

I changed into inconspicuous clothes and took a taxi to Mason Lewis's company.

The receptionist recognized me and smiled as she approached. "Mrs. Lewis, are you here to see Mr. Lewis? He just went out with Secretary Collins."

"Went out?" A flicker of hope stirred within me. "Do you know where they went?"

"It seems they went to the stairwell; they said they needed to discuss something."

I thanked the receptionist and quietly headed toward the emergency stairs.

Before I even reached the door, Secretary Collins's sultry voice floated from inside.

"Mason, when will you finally come clean with her? I'm sick of all this sneaking around."

"Wait a little longer," Mason Lewis's voice came. "Her father's company isn't fully under our control yet; getting a divorce now is too risky."

"Wait? I've been waiting for three years!" Secretary Collins's voice cracked with tears. "The last time she was pregnant, I was terrifiedafraid she'd give birth and claim part of your fortune."

"Don't worry. With me here, she won't be able to carry a pregnancy to term." Mason's voice held a hint of cruelty. "I'll be more careful from now on. I won't let this happen again."

"So, when will you keep the promise you made to me?"

"Once this is over, I will marry you."

Then came the sound of intimate kisses.

I stood outside the door, my whole body freezing, my fingers digging into my palms from gripping tightly.

It turned out he not only intended to betray me but also to completely erase my chance of becoming a mother.

I gently pushed the door, leaving a crack open.

The sight inside churned my stomachMason Lewis had Secretary Collins pressed against the wall, kissing her passionately.

"Mason," Secretary Collins gasped, "do you think she would be furious if she knew we've been together so long?"

"Good. Let her rage herself to death, so I don't have to lift a finger." Mason Lewis sneered coldly, "If it weren't for her father still being useful, I would have kicked her out long ago."

"And she still believes you love herwhat a fool."

"Fools are easier to control."

I could no longer bear to listen and quietly turned away.

Reaching the elevator, I realized my hands had been trembling the whole time.

It wasn't fearit was anger, it was despair.

I pulled out my phone and saved the conversation I had just recorded.

Mason Lewis, Secretary Collinsyou owe me, and I will reclaim every bit, piece by piece.

After returning from the company, I did not expose Mason Lewis.

I pretended to know nothing, staying cold toward him but no longer arguing.

He thought I was still angry and became even more careful in trying to please me.

On Wednesday night, Mason Lewis said he had to attend a social event and would be back late.

I nodded without asking any further questions.

Just after nine o'clock, my phone received a message from an unknown number, containing only a bar's location and one sentence: "Come see your husband's true face."

I looked at the locationit was a notorious private bar in the city center.

Without hesitation, I changed clothes and took a taxi to rush there.

The bar was dimly lit, the music noisy.

I had just walked in when I saw Mason Lewis.

He sat in a booth, surrounded by a few friends, while Secretary Collins nestled intimately in his arms.

I found a corner seat and ordered a glass of lemonade.

"Mason, you're amazing, you've got your woman so tightly under control." A man wearing glasses laughed, "Last time she had a miscarriage, I thought you might soften."

Mason Lewis snorted scornfully and tightened his hold on Secretary Collins's waist.

"Soft-hearted? I've never had any softness for her."

Secretary Collins giggled and kissed him on the cheek. "Mason is still the one who loves me the most."

"Seriously, Mason, when exactly are you going to divorce her?" Another man asked, "Always sneaking around with Secretary Collins like this isn't right."

"Soon." Mason Lewis took a sip of his wine, his gaze dark and fierce. "Once her father's company completely collapses, I'll divorce her immediately and marry Lucy in all glory."

"Lisa Clark is truly pitiful, being deceived by you so completely." Someone whispered softly.

"Pitiful?" Mason Lewis sneered, "If her father hadn't relied on his little power back then and looked down on me, would I have to wait until now? They owe me for all this."

Secretary Collins nodded in agreement, "Exactly, neither of them are good peoplethey deserve what's happening to them."

"Besides," Mason's voice held a trace of pride, "I've been giving her contraceptive pills for so long, she'll never have children in this lifetime. Even if we divorce, she won't be able to marry again."

The people around burst into laughter, their voices like needles stabbing into my heart.

I clenched my phone tightly, recording their conversation and the scene.

So, he not only wants my property but also intends to ruin my entire life.

"Mason, look isn't that Lisa Clark?" Suddenly, someone pointed at me and shouted.

Mason Lewis and Secretary Collins both turned their heads; the moment they saw me, their faces changed.

Secretary Collins hastily rose from his embrace and hid behind him.

Mason Lewis hurried toward me, his face pale: "Lisa, how are you here?"

I stood up, looking at him, my face completely expressionless.

"Why can't I be here?" My voice was calm. "To see my husband, his 'good secretary', and his friendsis that not allowed?"

"Lisa, don't misunderstand, Lucy and I are just..."

"Just what?" I cut him off. "Just sneaking around together for three years? Just conspiring to get rid of my child? Just planning to take over my father's company and then kicking me out?"

My words drained all the color from his face; he opened his mouth but couldn't manage a single defense.

"Mason Lewis," I looked into his eyes, speaking each word clearly, "we're finished."

Having said that, I turned and walked away without a backward glance.

Stepping out of the bar, the evening breeze brushed against my face, carrying a faint chill.

I didn't cry; I just felt that the place in my heart Mason had occupied for five years was finally empty.

The last trace of my feelings for him was completely worn away by those words just now.

Back at the villa, I locked myself in my room.

Moonlight filtered through the gap in the curtains, casting a slender shadow on the floor.

I remembered the moment I first met Mason Lewis.

It was at the university welcome party. He wore a white shirt and stood on stage playing the guitar, sunlight washing over himwarm and dazzling.

"Lisa Clark, I like you. Will you be my girlfriend?" He held a bouquet of roses, standing beneath the girls' dormitory, his gaze sincere.

I nodded, a shy blush spreading across my cheeks.

In those years, he was truly kind to me.

When I had my period, he would prepare brown sugar ginger tea in advance; when I stayed up late studying, he kept me company and brought me supper; when I was ill, he took leave to care for me, never leaving my side.

"Lisa, once I graduate and start earning, I will marry you." He held me close, whispering softly in my ear.

"I will work hard to give you the best life and make you the happiest woman."

"One day, we'll have two childrenone like you, one like me."

Those sweet promises still echoed in my ears, but reality struck me with a sharp slap.

The love I believed in was nothing but a carefully planned deception.

He never approached me out of love, but because of my father's company.

The door was gently pushed open, and Mason Lewis entered.

He smelled strongly of alcohol and perfumethat was Secretary Collins' scent.

"Lisa, I know I was wrong. Please forgive me this once, okay?" He came to the bedside and tried to take my hand.

I pulled my hand back sharply and looked at him with disgust.

"Don't touch me."

His hand froze in midair, hurt flashing across his face.

"Lisa, Lucy and I were only momentarily confused. The one I love has always been you."

"Momentarily confused?" I sneered coldly, "Three years of momentary confusion? Conspiring to cause my miscarriage was momentary confusion? Giving me contraceptive pills for three years was momentary confusion?"

His face paled and flushed in waves, his gaze avoiding mine.

"It was all Lucy forcing me; I truly had no choice."

"Mason Lewis, how long do you intend to keep lying?" I looked at him. "Do you think I'm still that fool who'd believe you after a few sweet words?"

He fell silent, and after a long pause he said, "Lisa, I know I've wronged you. Whatever compensation you want is fine, just please don't divorce me."

"Compensation?" I looked at him. "My child is gone. Five years of my youth wasted because of you. How do you plan to make up for that?"

He took a jewelry box out of his pocket, opened it, and handed it to me.

Inside was a dazzling diamond necklace, clearly very valuable.

"Lisa, this is something I specially bought for you. You'll look beautiful wearing it." He tried to fasten the necklace around my neck.

I swatted his hand away; the jewelry box fell to the ground, and the diamond necklace scattered.

"Mason Lewis, I don't need these." My voice was firm: "I only want a divorce."

"I don't agree!" he suddenly grew agitated. "I can't divorce you, Lisa. Give me another chance; I will cut ties with Lucy and treat you well."

"It's too late." I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. "From the moment you gave me the miscarriage medicine, it was already too late."

He met my resolute gaze, realizing I was serious this time, and slumped into the chair.

"Are you really going to treat me like this?" His voice trembled with emotion.

"You were the first to betray me." I stood up. "I'll prepare the divorce agreement as soon as possible; you just need to sign it."

After speaking, I turned and left the room, leaving him alone in the darkness.
