The day before our wedding, I received a set of intimate boudoir photos. They weren't of me, but of my husband-to-be and another woman.

Archer had always been the cold, distant type, someone who valued his privacy above all else. Yet there he was in those pictures, tangled up in bed with someone else in the most suggestive poses.

I didn't cry or scream. I looked at the two of them looking so perfect together and calmly sent Archer a text demanding a divorce.

A few minutes later, his studio's lead photographer called me, her voice trembling and thick with tears. She begged me not to be angry.

"Quinn, please don't misunderstand Archer. We only took those photos for a creative project. It was strictly professional," Sienna sobbed.

In the background, I could hear Archer's voice, soft and comforting as he spoke to her.

"Don't worry about her. Everything she has was given to her by the Kingsley family. She doesn't have the right to be angry."

I didn't say a word to defend myself. I simply left the divorce papers on the table and walked away without looking back.

When Archer walked through the front door, he froze. Our eyes met as I stood there, gripping the handle of my suitcase.

He stopped mid-motion while setting down a large picture frame. His expression quickly shifted into one of pure annoyance.

"Quinn Kingsley, don't tell me you're throwing a tantrum and running away over a few photos?"

He sounded exhausted, as if I were a child misbehaving. "Look, I brought the wedding portrait home. It's not a big deal."

He gestured toward a massive thirty-inch canvas. It was meant to hang right above our bed.

Just yesterday, I would have been thrilled to see it. Archer was a world-class photographer, but he hated being in front of the lens. We barely had any photos together.

I had begged him for months just to get him to agree to a wedding shoot. It was supposed to be our special memory.

But after seeing those boudoir shots, I realized the truth. He didn't hate being in photos. He just didn't want to be in them with me.

I didn't even glance at the portrait. Instead, I pointed at the papers on the mahogany desk.

"You're back just in time. I've already signed everything. Let me know when you're free to go to the courthouse and finalize the split."

The words had barely left my mouth when Archer slammed the portrait onto the desk. He didn't even look at the decree.

"Are you serious right now? I did that shoot with Sienna to support her career. She's an artist!"

"Because of your little divorce threat, she felt so guilty she canceled all her bookings for today!" Archer shouted, his face reddening.

Sienna was the star of Archer's studio. She was romantic, talented, and beautiful. Everyone said they were the perfect creative match.

When I remained silent, Archer rubbed his temples in frustration. He grabbed the divorce papers and ripped them into tiny pieces.

He tossed the scraps into the trash can like they were nothing. "They were just artistic photos. Only someone with a mind as filthy as yours would see it as anything else."

Artistic? We had been together for years, and he had barely even kissed me. He always said he wanted to respect me.

I thought he was being a gentleman. I didn't realize he was just saving his passion for someone else.

In those photos, he looked so natural. There was no hesitation, no shynessDjust pure, raw intimacy.

But honestly? I didn't care anymore. I didn't want to know the why.

For the first time in a decade, I felt a weight lift off my shoulders. I was done lying to myself.

"You're right. I don't understand that kind of 'art.' If you love it so much, you two should take more photos together."

I shrugged, my voice flat. I don't know if he didn't catch the sarcasm or if he was just playing dumb. He let out a cold snort.

"I'm glad you finally understand. Sienna is much more open-minded than you. Once the wedding is over tomorrow, you'll apologize to her and we'll move on."

I actually laughed. It was a sharp, bitter sound. "Apologize? For what?"

A mocking smile touched my lips. "What did I do to her? Did I forget to thank her for not filming a sex tape with my husband?"

Archer's temper flared instantly. He looked like he wanted to break something.

"Quinn! You insulted her craft! You will apologize, or I swear, you'll regret it."

"What are you going to do? Divorce me? Kick me out of the Kingsley estate?"

I began rolling my suitcase toward the door, cutting him off. "Don't bother. I'm leaving right now."

"Make sure you sign the new papers I send. I'm vacating the spot for her."

"The two of you can get married and live in your artistic little bubble forever."

Archer saw that I was actually headed for the exit. In a fit of rage, he kicked my suitcase, sent it spinning across the floor.

"I tried to be nice, and all you can do is be a sarcastic bitch?"

"If you walk out that door today, don't you ever think about crawling back to this family."

Archer was convinced I wouldn't leave. He thought I was too hooked on the Kingsley lifestyle and the power I held.

But the truth was, I never cared about the money. I only cared about him.

It was clear his heart hadn't belonged to me for a long time. I just wanted to get away from this place that felt like a gilded cage.

Behind me, I heard the sound of glass shattering as the wedding portrait hit the floor. Archer's voice followed me like a curse.

"You're nothing but a dog the Kingsleys raised for me, Quinn!"

"Without me, without this family, you are absolutely nothing!"

I hurried my pace, but those words still felt like a knife to the chest.

Ten years. I had loved him for ten years, and to him, I was just a loyal pet that needed to be trained.

It was a pathetic realization. My heart felt like it had been carved out of my chest.

The worst part was that he was right. My last name, my education, my lifeDit all belonged to the Kingsleys.

To the outside world, I was a powerful woman. But everyone knew I only had that power because of Archer and his grandfather.

I was an orphan Grandpa Kingsley had picked up to work as a maid in the manor.

At a high-society birthday party years ago, a group of rich girls had framed me for stealing a diamond necklace.

Archer was the one who found the security footage and cleared my name. He saved me from being thrown back onto the streets.

After the party, he told his grandfather he liked me. He wanted me to be his personal photography model.

Grandpa Kingsley moved me from the servants' quarters to Archer's side. I became his playmate, his assistant, and his shadow.

When it was time for college, Grandpa sent me abroad. He had a plan for me.

Archer was the only heir to the Kingsley empire, but he had zero interest in business. He only cared about his cameras and his "art."

Grandpa knew I loved Archer. He also knew the family needed a CEO who would be completely loyal and obedient.

He groomed me to be that person. That was the deal we made so I could stay near Archer.

When I returned to the States, I started at the very bottom of Kingsley Enterprises. I was a lowly assistant.

I worked twenty-hour days. I drank myself sick at business dinners just to close deals. I didn't sleep.

Slowly, I climbed the ladder until I was the Acting CEO. Only then was I considered "worthy" of marrying Archer.

I was a puppet with no real power, but I gave my life to that company anyway.

Archer and I started dating in college. It felt like a natural progression.

After graduation, Grandpa made us sign the marriage license. But there was no ceremony.

He told me that when I proved I could lead the company on my own, he would announce my status to the world. He promised me a wedding that would be the talk of the country.

I waited three long years for that day.

I poured everything into my work, thinking I was building a future for us. I didn't see that Archer was growing to resent my "boring" corporate life.

He missed having a model who lived for art. He missed having someone who could follow him into the wild for a shoot.

And then, Sienna appeared.

They met at a gallery opening. Archer was instantly captivated and invited her to join his studio.

They shared a language I didn't speak. They shared "passion" and "vision."

Sienna understood the emotions behind his lens. She understood the man I was too busy working to see.

Before I knew it, she had taken over his heart.

I was the wife who talked about quarterly reports. She was the muse who talked about the soul.

Archer became cold and impatient. He spent every night at the studio.

I tried to believe him when he said they were just colleagues. I was desperate to save my marriage.

I thought a grand wedding ceremony would fix us. I thought it would bring him back.

But while we were at the dress fitting, I overheard Sienna whispering to him.

"Is it okay for us to take these intimate photos? Won't your wife be upset?"

Archer had laughed. "I only want to photograph the woman I love. And that's you, Sienna."

Then came the "wedding photos" I received the day before our big event.

Except it wasn't us. It was Archer and Sienna.

In the photos, Sienna was wearing a lace nightgownDthe exact one she had given me as a "wedding gift."

I had imagined wearing that for Archer on our wedding night. Seeing her in it broke something inside me.

The faith I had held onto for a decade crumbled into dust.

The truth was screaming in my face. Archer Kingsley did not love me.

It was time to let go of the man who had already let go of me.

Archer was more ruthless than I imagined. He froze my bank accounts and cut off my credit cards immediately.

With no access to the Kingsley fortune, I had to move into the company's cramped employee dorms.

The next morning, I went to the office like nothing had happened. I was briefing my secretary when she gave me a look of pure pity.

Before I could ask what was wrong, my phone exploded with calls. It was Archer, and he sounded livid.

"Quinn! The wedding is starting in an hour! Is your work more important than your own life?"

"Are you really going to humiliate me and the Kingsley name by not showing up?"

Listening to his baseless accusations, I felt nothing but a dull disappointment.

He didn't care about my feelings. He only cared about the family's reputation.

The wedding I had fought so hard for was a joke now. There was no point in going through with it.

"Archer, let me say this one last time. I'm divorcing you. Cancel the ceremony."

"If you insist on going through with this, whatever happens to your reputation is on you."

"Quinn Kingsley! Enough!" Archer snarled.

"Don't forget that today is the day we announce you as the official CEO. That's what you want, isn't it?"

"If you don't show up, you're fired. You'll be out on the street with nothing."

He thought he could still control me with the title. He thought the CEO position was my greatest ambition.

It might have been once. But not anymore.

I ignored his threats and started typing my formal resignation letter.

Suddenly, the office door burst open. A group of men in black suits marched in.

Archer's lead bodyguard stepped forward, his face like stone.

"Miss Kingsley, Archer has ordered us to bring you to the venue. Please don't make this difficult."

I looked at the hulking men behind him and sighed. I realized I wasn't getting out of this without a confrontation.

Fine. I'd go. It was better to end this in person anyway.

I gave my secretary a few last-minute instructions and followed the guards out.

By the time we reached the luxury hotel, the "romantic" ceremony had already begun.

The ballroom was decorated exactly how I had planned itDelegant, artistic, and expensive.

Now, it felt like a mockery. Large screens were looping photos of Archer and Sienna, not the bride and groom.

It was as if the wedding had been rebranded for them while I was on my way.

On the stage, SiennaDwho was supposed to be the photographerDwas dressed in a sleek white suit.

She was kissing Archer while the guests cheered and clapped.

Grandpa Kingsley sat in the front row with a dark, thunderous expression. Everyone else looked delighted.

Under the bright spotlights, Archer saw me. He didn't look guilty. He looked triumphant.

My heart twinged, but the pain was fading. It was becoming a numb ache.

The guards dragged me to a dressing room and forced me into my wedding gown.

The inner circle of guests was already eating, but the real show was outside.

The hotel lobby was packed with reporters waiting for the big announcement. They didn't know the drama happening inside.

Once I was dressed, the guards marched me toward the press area.

Archer and Sienna were already there, standing at the podium, soaking up the praise.

"Mr. Kingsley, is this lovely woman your bride?" a reporter asked, gesturing to Sienna.

"We've heard rumors about a mysterious, powerful female CEO. Is she the one?"

The press started gushing about what a beautiful couple they were.

Archer didn't correct them. He just looked at me with a warning in his eyes.

He was telling me to behave. If I played my part, I'd get my title. I'd get the Kingsley seal of approval.

I let out a soft, mocking laugh. It was time for the puppet to cut her strings.

As the bodyguards pushed me onto the stage, the crowd gasped in confusion.

Archer leaned in close, his voice a low hiss in my ear.

"I knew you'd show up. You're too scared of losing your precious CEO chair, aren't you?"

He didn't even try to explain why he had been kissing another woman seconds ago.

He just reached out and grabbed my hand, interlacing our fingers for the cameras.

"Everyone, let me introduce my true bride," he announced smoothly. "The CEO of Kingsley Enterprises, Quinn Kingsley."

I took the microphone from his hand. The room went silent.

"Hello everyone. I'm Quinn," I started, my voice steady.

"I was supposed to be the bride today. But I've decided to divorce Archer Kingsley."

The cameras started flashing like crazy. I didn't stop.

"I'm also here to announce my immediate resignation as CEO of this company."

"From this moment on, I have no affiliation with the Kingsleys or Archer. We are done."
