My husband had suffered from severe insomnia for six months.

I'd chased down every top doctor in the city, asking for nothing except that he might finally sleep through a night.

To keep from disturbing his rest, I moved myself into the guest room.

Then, at three in the morning, my phone refreshed a page on its own.

And I saw my husband, the man who was supposedly "already asleep," inside a livestream room, showering a sleep-aid host with three top-tier gifts in a row.

A moment later, the sounds coming from the master bedroom were the kind that make your face burn and your pulse race.

1.

My husband's voice drifted out, threaded with the host's over the live call.

"Thanks for the gifts, Justin Henson. Tonight I'll do anything you want."

Justin's tone turned playful.

"Really? Then I want you to have my baby. You in?"

The woman teased him back.

"Sure, we handle the making, and your wife handles the raising. That could work."

Justin laughed.

"You're a riot. Way better than that block of wood."

Then the woman spoke again.

"Justin, it's time for that special session tonight. But your wife's home. It'd be bad if she caught us. How about we do something else instead?"

Justin sneered.

"Her?"

"Back when she was chasing me, she was like some pathetic little puppy. Even if she heard, she wouldn't dare do a thing."

"Well, if that's how it is, then I'm going to start now."

And then a sound I can't bring myself to describe began to rise.

Justin, for his part, was beside himself with excitement.

"Luna Pruitt, your voice is so sweet. Here, let me tip you again."

Luna gasped with delight.

"Wow, thank you for the gift, Justin!"

"Such a shame, though. Your wife's home today, so we can't do our weekly in-person session."

At the same time, I saw three thousand dollars vanish from our joint savings account.

From everything they'd just said, it was clear.

Justin hadn't only tipped this host over and over online.

He'd been ordering these special sessions regularly, too.

And more than that, they'd been meeting in private, for what they called "in-person companionship."

He'd never touched the joint account when he tipped before. He must have always used his own private account.

This time, too worked up to think, he'd brazenly pulled the money straight from our shared account.

Something in me went cold.

Six months ago, when the company posted me overseas.

Afraid Justin would be lonely, I'd wanted to bring him with me.

But he chose to stay behind, saying he wanted to look after my mother in my place.

Maybe that was when he first became infatuated with this sleep-aid host.

Three years married to Justin.

Back then he said he loved watching me work so hard.

So I made up my mind and handed the multi-billion-dollar conglomerate my grandfather had left me over to my people to run.

And I started from nothing, telling him about every bit of progress I made each day.

All I wanted was for him to praise me.

And he, just as I'd hoped, would fall apart in tears every time I came home, saying he was the happiest man alive.

I lost myself in all of it,

never knowing his heart had betrayed me long ago.

Since he didn't treasure this marriage.

Then I didn't need to keep playing out this tragic little drama with him.

I turned and called my right-hand man.

"I'm coming back to Fox Group. Get things ready."

His voice came back charged with excitement.

"Ms. Fox, you're finally willing to come back. We've all been waiting so long for this."

I nodded.

"Keep my return quiet for now."

"First, handle something for me. Look into a host named Luna."

"Buy out the platform she's on, as fast as you can."

He answered "Yes," and I hung up.

Just then the master bedroom door moved.

Justin came out.

When he saw me, guilt flickered across his face.

But he covered it in an instant, offering up that gentle smile.

"Honey, why aren't you asleep yet?"

I said it flatly.

"I saw three thousand dollars go out of the joint account."

He froze for a second, then glanced at his phone.

"Oh, a buddy of mine had his eye on a watch."

"He was short on cash, so I lent him some. I picked the wrong account by mistake when I sent it."

"Is that so."

My voice was neither warm nor cold.

Justin shot me a look.

"Myra Fox, don't tell me you don't believe me?"

"We've been married over three years. When have I ever lied to you?"

When had he ever lied to me?

I only found it laughable.

I wanted to confront him, but I held it back.

Because now wasn't the time.

On the surface I stayed calm.

"I was only asking. I worried you might not have enough to spend."

The smile returned to his face.

"That's more like it."

"All right, honey, go to sleep now. You've still got work tomorrow."

Then he kissed me on the forehead.

After that, he turned and walked into the bedroom.

The door slammed shut behind him.

Early the next morning, I was making breakfast.

The door to the master bedroom opened without warning.

Justin didn't work. He stayed home playing the markets, mutual funds and stocks, and he always slept until eight or nine. Today was early for him.

Why not sleep in?

I asked lightly.

He rubbed his eyes.

I'm meeting the guys today. If I go late, the line's forever.

Hurry up with breakfast.

Then he sat down off to the side.

I caught him texting Luna.

Luna, you've missed your period two months in a row. You're not actually pregnant, are you?

Her reply came back:Then I'll keep it.

But we'll say you adopted it. Let her raise it first.

Yeah, yeah. She won't suspect a thing anyway.

Okay, I'll go with you to the appointment today.

I laughed coldly inside.

I hadn't expected the two of them to get this far.

I walked into the kitchen.

Came back out with breakfast.

Justin ate a few quick bites, then grinned and waved at me.

I'm heading out, babe.

For our future, you keep up the good work, okay?

Once, it would have made me happy, filled me with drive.

But now I only felt sick.

Watching the direction he'd gone, I hailed a cab and followed.

It finally stopped at a women's and children's hospital.

The moment I stepped out, my man called.

Ms. Fox, I've got it confirmed. This Luna is WarmGlow TV's hottest female host.

Pretty face, sweet talk, and she's pulled in a huge crowd of male fans.

WarmGlow TV?

Never heard of it.

Didn't matter, though.

How long for the buyout.

I asked.

My man answered:

Two days.

The call ended.

I walked into a coffee shop.

Two hours later, Justin and Luna came out of the hospital.

I couldn't make out what they were saying.

But I could guess.

I sent a message to my man.

Get someone to the city women's and children's hospital and pull all of Luna's medical reports.

That evening I timed it to the end of the workday and went home.

The second I walked in.

Justin threw his arms around me, happy as ever.

Babe, you must be tired. I made your favorite today, braised pot roast.

I caught the pregnancy test slip sticking out of his bag.

I didn't call it out.

I gave a faint smile and gently pushed him off.

I'm not hungry, you eat.

I've got work to do.

Then my face went cold, and I left him standing there and walked into the study.

He blinked, caught off guard.

But he didn't think much of it.

Then do your work. Once things settle down, let's have a kid.

I didn't turn around.

Afraid I'd do something rash if I did.

In the study, I sat there until midnight.

Then I logged into Luna's stream on a burner account.

Right now Luna was doing a sleep-aid stream for her fans.

With some back-and-forth mixed in.

Plenty of the male fans were posting filthy things, saying how beautiful and gentle she was, that they wanted to have a baby with her.

Justin was in there too, logged in on his real account.

He dropped a top-tier gift right away.

No need to fight over it, boys. Luna's already carrying my baby, DNA test confirmed~

If you love Luna, you've got to send her gifts.

And with that, he sent another top-tier gift.

After that, he flirted with Luna like no one else was there.

Then someone said they'd seen from Justin's posts that he was already married.

He tagged the guy and replied:

If your wife had zero fun in her, and you had to fake being happy every single day, wouldn't you find it dull too?

A man's only happy when he's with someone who gets him.

The stream was packed with brainless fans, and they all piled on to agree.

Watching it, I gave a cold little smile.

Then I took a screenshot.

Justin.

Since you think she gets you.

When I finally lay my cards on the table, you'd better not cry.

An hour later, Luna spoke up with a smile.

"All right, everyone, next up is private sleep-time for my number-one big spender. See the rest of you tomorrow~"

Then I was kicked out of the stream.

And the number one, of course, was Justin.

I had no interest in listening to whatever they said next.

I only forwarded the screenshots I'd just taken to the legal team.

Early the next morning, I went to Fox Group for the routine briefings from the department heads.

When I left, one of my people walked me out.

As we passed a Western restaurant,

I looked at him.

"Come sit with me for a bit."

We had just gone in and taken a two-seat table by the window.

When a familiar figure suddenly walked through the door.

It was Luna.

She sat with a few friends at the best table in the place, all smiles.

"My treat today, everyone. Order whatever you want."

Someone teased her.

"Look at you. That number-one big spender of yours tipping you again?"

"Don't tell me some rich guy's keeping you."

"Hahaha!"

Luna laughed.

"What rich guy. This is all his wife's money."

"He just knocked me up by accident."

"But Justin says when the baby comes, he'll have his wife raise it."

The others immediately gave Luna a thumbs-up.

"Not only are you spending his wife's money, his wife has to raise your kid too."

"You're something else!"

"He must be really good-looking, though."

"Obviously. My number-one big spender, how could he not be?"

Luna gave a little smile.

"You'll get to see him in person soon."

Catching the darkness in my eyes, my man's face filled with anger.

"Ms. Fox, let me go teach them a lesson!"

I held him back and glanced at where we were sitting.

Our table and Luna's were separated by the railing down the middle, and we could only see each other through the gaps.

But if you weren't looking closely, you couldn't see anything at all.

Which suited me perfectly.

I took a sip of red wine.

"No rush."

He was on edge.

"Ms. Fox, back when you led us, you were never"

I looked up.

Cold light in my eyes, a thin, cold smile.

"Never this soft, right?"

He said nothing.

I went on.

"Then surely you remember. Has anyone who crossed me ever gotten off easy?"

He froze, a trace of alarm crossing his face, and said nothing more.

That was when Justin appeared.

Dressed sharp and expensive.

He walked over to Luna and sat down pressed right against her.

Luna asked,

"Justin, your wife doesn't know you're here, does she?"

Distaste flickered across Justin's face, and he shook his head.

"She went off to work first thing this morning. Said she was going to work hard and surprise me."

"If she didn't make so much money, if it weren't for having her raise our kid, I'd have divorced her already."

The others ribbed him, calling me a gullible fool.

But what they didn't know

was that I'd started recording the moment Justin sat down.

Through the gap in the railing, I got all of it, clear as day.

Especially the part where they egged Luna and Justin into kissing.

That evening, Marcus told me the WarmGlow TV buyout was done.

I sent one message:

"I'll come tomorrow. Bring the lawyer."

When I got home, Justin already had dinner laid out for me.

"Babe, I went out with the guys today. Hated to waste the leftovers, so I brought back what we couldn't finish."

"See? I know how to run a household."

I looked at the table.

One glance was all it took.

Luna and her crowd's leftovers from that afternoon.

Whatever hunger I'd had curdled into nausea.

I bolted to the bathroom and gagged.

Justin was right behind me, all worry.

"Babe, what's wrong? Are you overworked?"

He gently dabbed at my mouth.

I looked at him, and thought of what he'd said about me in front of Luna.

Hard to picture that the gentle man on the surface loathed me that much underneath.

A fury I couldn't put into words started building in my chest.

"Get off me!"

I shoved him hard.

He nearly went down.

The second he steadied himself, his face went furious.

"Myra, are you out of your mind?!"

"What was that shove for?!"

I stared him down.

"Justin, what's that sound coming from your room lately?"

"You're not having insomnia, are you?"

"Who are you talking to."

I wanted to see how he'd react, so I could kill off the last of my hope for good.

At my words, a flicker of guilt crossed his face.

But in an instant, he was righteous again.

"And whose fault is that? Every day it's nothing but work, you never spend any time with me!"

"So I'm in a bad mood and I can't even chat a little?"

I let out a cold laugh and was about to speak when his phone buzzed with a message.

"Justin, tomorrow's the couples' stream battle. Come help me out, keep the room in line for me."

Justin broke into a grin and fired back:

"Don't worry, I'll be there for sure."

Then he shot me a cold glance.

"Making that little bit of money is the only value you've got."

"I've got things to do tomorrow. I'm going to bed."

He shut the door and locked it from the inside.

Early the next morning, he left the house.

And I, a little later, arrived at the WarmGlow TV livestream floor.

The moment I walked in, I caught Justin and Luna celebrating their stream battle win.

The crowd egged them on while they kissed, deep and open.

Through the crowd, Justin saw me.

Panic flashed across his face and he shoved Luna away.

Luna followed his gaze and turned.

When she saw me, she understood.

She gave me an amused little smile and said to Justin:

"Justin, this your wife?"

"Didn't think she'd actually catch on."

"But it's just as well. I'm sick of sneaking around anyway. I'm WarmGlow's number one streamer. I make plenty to keep you and our baby."

At that, Justin's face settled. He nodded and walked over, his tone ugly.

"Myra, you're following me now?"

I looked at him, cold.

"Not following. I'm here to make sure you walk away with nothing."

Luna let out a sneer, strode over full of confidence, and grabbed me by the collar.

"Who do you think you are? This is my turf."

"Kneel and apologize to Justin, then sign every asset over to him."

"I know more people than you've had hot meals. Want to test whether I can have someone deal with you?"

She leaned in close, sneering.

"Don't be stupid. What's wrong with quietly playing the sucker who cleans up the mess? You had to come make a scene."

Marcus shoved her off.

"Watch where you put your hands. Do you have any idea who Ms. Fox is?!"

Luna scoffed.

"Who is she? Just some fool who got played."

The whole room burst out laughing.

I ignored all of them and looked at Justin.

"I'll give you one last chance. Sign the agreement, or you'll learn what it costs to betray me."

Luna snatched the agreement, tore it up, and flung the pieces over my head.

She jabbed a finger at my nose. "Who do you think you're threatening!"

Then she swept an arm out.

"Guys, she's got the nerve to come raise hell here. Make sure she leaves sorry today!"

At that, the crowd closed in around me.

And right then, WarmGlow TV's head came hurrying in late, pushing through the crowd to reach me, face white with terror, cold sweat pouring:

"Ms. Fox, why are you here all of a sudden? You should've said something so I could welcome you properly."

Then he turned to the crowd:

"What do you all think you're doing? This is the platform's new owner. Anyone who dares disrespect her can pack up and get out this instant!"

At that, disbelief spread across their faces, and every one of them shrank back.

I walked up to Luna.

"Now, say it again. Whose turf is this?"
